Pottery Universe Ukraine – 2010
THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC FESTIVAL AND FAIR

1. The Second International Artistic Festival and Fair Pottery Universe Ukraine 2010; (hereinafter the Festival and Fair) is an international art exhibition and trade action in the branch of modern art pottery.
2. The Festival and Fair would be held in the framework of the Second Week of the National Pottery Shifting The 2010 Shift in Opishne. The participants Festival and Fair could also take part in the events:
• The Fourth International Youth Pottery Festival (29.06 – 09.07.2010);
• An International Scientific Symposium The Pottery Craft of Hutsul and Pokuttya Regions: Ideological Myths and Historical Reality (30.06–03.07.2010);
• The First INTERSymposium of Pottery IN OPISHNE 2010: 10x10 (22.06 – 01.07.2010);
• The Second National Competitive Exhibition of Art Pottery The CeramPeak in Opishne (02.07 – 31.10.2010);
• The National Photographic Competition Pottery VISIONS of the Country (30.06–31.10.2010);
• The Opening of the Memorial Estate of Leonid Smorzh, the Ukrainian philosopher and the collector of Opishne pottery (01.07.2010);
• The National POTTER’S DAY (03.07.2010).
3. The organizers of the Festival are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine, the National Museum of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne, The State Specialized Art Boarding School The College of the Arts in Opishne, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ethnology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ceramology Institute – the branch of the Ethnology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Ceramic Society, the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
4. The aim of the Festival and Fair is to popularize earthenware among various strata of society, to arrange the art contests and intercourse of artists from different regions of Ukraine.
5. The main TASKS of the Festival and Fair:
• to develop and popularize the art of pottery with the help of the trade
exhibition of earthenware;
• to form the national market of Ukrainian art pottery, to grasp the conceptual problems of its development;
• to form the aesthetic tastes of people;
• to promote the multifarious usage of Ukrainian pottery in the everyday life
of contemporaries.

6. The location of Festival and Fair:
The pottery capital of Ukraine – the town of Opishne (the Poltava Region),
The Centre of the Development of Spiritual Culture of the National Museum
of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne

7. The date of the Festival and Fair: 02–04 July 2010. The official opening of the Festival and Fair will be 2 July 2010, 10 a.m..
8. Potters, artists, private entrepreneurs, specialized in art pottery, ceramologists, art critics, ethnologists, regional explorers, museologists, culturologists, collectors, art unions, handicraft enterprise, the students of higher educational institutions, the senior pupils of secondary schools are invited to take part in the Festival and Fair. The Festival and Fair is opened for all the artists, irrespective of age, gender, nationality, professional education etc.
9. Craftsmen could take part in the Festival and Fair particularly or by the way of different organizations, associations, unions, societies, galleries.
Those who wish to take part in the Festival and Fair should give an application on the following form to the Management of the National Museum of Ukrainian Pottery
in Opishne (hereinafter the Management) äî May 1 2010. At the same time they have to send the photos of art works proposed for sale. The Management will consider given materials and determines their right to take part in the Festival and Fair.
Works from other materials, except earthenware (cloth, skin, wood, painting) are allowed to take part in the Festival and Fair.
Works distorting the ethnic image of Ukraine and the Ukrainians or the representatives of minority groups in Ukraine are not allowed to take part in the Festival and Fair.
The Management distributes formal invitations invitations for the participation
the Festival and Fair till May 20 2010. Without this formal invitation works are not allowed to be put up for sale.
10. During the Festival and Fair the participants make their personal trade exhibitions of pottery works, take part in workmanship contests.
11. Craftsmen could sell the unlimited quantity of art works in accordance with current Ukrainian legislation.
Expenses, connected with transportation of works, have to be paid by the participants themselves.
12. Places for the trade exhibition of clay and other works will be given to the participants of the Festival and Fair free of charge.
13. The Festival and Fair will be popularized in national mass communication media by all means.
14. The Participants of the Festival and Fair could also attend the exhibitions:

• The Way of the INITIATED One (on the centenary of the National Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko Prize winner, the famous potter Ivan Bilyk);
• RELATED with Clay (on the centenary of a married couple from one of the most ancient potters’ families of Ukraine – Havrylo Poshyvailo and Yavdokha Poshyvailo – as well as the eightieth birthday of their son, the famous potterMykola Poshyvailo);
• The MAESTRO of Pottery Baroque (on the eighty fifth birthday of the National Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko Prize winner, the famous potter Vasyl Omelyanenko);
• Hutsul and Pokuttya Pottery in the collection of the National Museum of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne;
• KATERYNA MATEYKO: life and creative work in photos and archival documents;
• The Pottery Craft of the HUTSUL and POKUTTYA Regions in the photos by Yuriy Lashchuk.
